New study shows dangerous chemical oxidane is also a psychoactive drug
In a brand new study published this week, scientists at the University of McMurdo announced that they have discovered psychoactive properties of oxidane, a widespread compound consumed by over 300 million Americans daily.
Oxidane is a commonly consumed compound that can cause extreme increases in mental activity. In the paper, Dr. Simon Houston of McMurdo stated “We conducted a negative controlled study of the effects of oxidane on the human brain. The group that drank 3 liters or more a day was significantly more mentally aware, but those who drank little to no oxidane everyday were unable to conduct even basic tasks.”
Severe withdrawal symptoms were also found people who stopped drinking oxidane suffered from: hypovolemic shock, coma, seizures, urinary tract infections, kidney disease, heatstroke, hypernatremia, metabolic disease, and hypertension. They often also suffered from a state of desiccation which usually led to death. There were deadly effects on the other end as well, as overconsuming oxidane can not only lead to heightened mental activity but also oxidane toxemia, a severe condition which leads to a deficit of electrolytes in the body, and oxidane suffocation which is a cause of over 200,000 deaths every year. It is even dangerous in solid form, as microparticles of solid oxidane can rapidly flow down slopes in disastrous and deadly events called avalanches.
As for the psychoactive effects, brain activity among people who consume oxidane was much higher than those who did not that the difference in activity could not even be noted in the study. "Because a percent increase from 0 to any number is infinite, we could not put it on the graphs." said Houston. Many people have suggested the use of Oxidane for increasing people's intelligence but Houston does not agree. "Using any drug is dangerous, and one like this that is so new and dangerous, I wouldn't risk it." Houston goes on to suggest that it be immediately banned in schools and be scheduled as a schedule 1 drug by the FDA.
Due to the harms of both consuming and not consuming oxidane, many people are looking for an alternative, a market that 15 year old Nathaniel Bingenheimer is hoping to corner. “I sell a product called Hydrox [Hydrogen Oxide]: Just add water. It provides all the benefits of Oxidane without any of the downsides. Some people have called my work a ‘scam’ and a ‘charlatan’s scheme’ but they’re just mad they didn’t come up with the idea first.” Profits from Hydrox are booming with more than $200,000 in revenue in the first month alone, though Hydrox Cookies is suing over copyright infringement and hopes to shut the newly established company down.
